Founders & Friends of The Children's Trust Recognized at Inaugural Event
The Children's Trust of South Carolina acknowledged the first day of Child Abuse Prevention month at its inaugural 2010 Founders & Friends Breakfast, April 1. Leaders and champions of the four founding, recently merged, nonprofit organizations were celebrated for their ongoing work and commitment for the safety of South Carolina's children and families.
The Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of South Carolina was recognized for its chapter's commitment to child abuse prevention and contributing more than $40,000 during the past year to The Children's Trust. Lauren Hart, Kappa Delta president, Theresa Johnston, Bonnie White and Krista Redick accepted the award.
Honoree's from the four founding organizations include: Kappy Hubbard, Voices for South Carolina's Children; Beebe James, Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina; Ree Mallison, Safe Kids South Carolina; and Jim Cleckler, The Children's Trust Fund.
Attorneys and law firms that have supported The Children's Trust and founding organizations were also recognized. The Nelson Mullin's law firm has demonstrated a long term commitment to child abuse prevention. William Hubbard accepted the award on behalf of the firm with attorneys Tom Brumgardt and Jeremy Whitley. Rick Morgan and Paul Harrill from The McNair law firm were also honored for their work.
Thornton Kirby, CEO, South Carolina Hospital Association was recognized for the Association's role as Safe Kids South Carolina's parent organization from 1993-2010.
Corporations acknowledged for their work and corporate commitment to child abuse prevention included: BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina; Colonial Life and Time Warner Cable. Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company and the Palmetto Company were event sponsors.
