IPAB is Democrats' Achilles' heel

Medicare, Medicaid, and healthcare in general are the issues that Democrats hope to ride to victory in the polls in 2012. My party's recent victory in the New York special election for the House of Representatives represents welcomed news for Democrats like me. Our recent performance in the polls stems not from Democratic successes (they're few and far between this Congress) but rather from the Republican Party's radical plan to abolish Medicare for everyone under 55. Running against the ill-advised proposal proffered by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) won the upstate New York special election for Democrats and will continue to be a winning issue for America's progressives. But we could easily lose this edge when the public figures out that many Democrats support or at least don't oppose a poorly conceived bureaucracy created under the new healthcare law that will accomplish the same thing they accuse the Ryan plan of doing, gutting Medicare.
