Phillip A. Harris, Jr. is an associate in the Raleigh office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, where he practices in the fields of business litigation, intellectual property, and appellate litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Harris served a clerkship with the Honorable Justice Mark D. Martin of the North Carolina Supreme Court. He is a former Nelson Mullins summer associate. Mr. Harris has also clerked for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and served as an extern in the chambers of Judge James A. Wynn, Jr. of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Prior to law school, Mr. Harris worked as a manufacturing engineer at a North Carolina manufacturing plant. In addition to his process engineering and project duties, Mr. Harris received Six Sigma Green Belt certification and served as a TL9000 quality auditor.
He is a member of both the North Carolina Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of both the Wake and Durham County Bar Associations.
In 2009, Mr. Harris earned a Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law. While in law school, he served as a Dean’s Fellow, LEAP teaching assistant, and Academic Affairs Committee Chair for the Black Law Students Association. As a staff member of the North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology, his article "Mod Chips and Homebrew: A Recipe for their Continued Use in the Wake of Sony v. Divineo" was published in Volume 9, Issue 1. He later served as Articles Editor for NC JOLT.
Mr. Harris earned his Bachelor of Science in 2004 in Chemical Engineering from Brown University.
