Amanda S. Kitts is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia where she practices in the areas of pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, product liability, toxic torts, and business litigation.
Along with other Nelson Mullins attorneys, Ms. Kitts has represented various pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers as both national and local counsel, including in mass tort multi-district litigation. Ms. Kitts has represented major pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in cases involving prescription and over-the-counter drugs, hormonal agents, animal health care products, coronary stents, and ophthalmic surgical products. Additionally, Ms. Kitts has represented pharmaceutical companies involved in class action matters, patent litigation, and actions brought by state Attorneys General. Ms. Kitts has worked on various aspects of pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, including taking depositions, drafting pre-trial motions and submissions, creating trial presentation materials, and working with defense experts. She has also drafted appellate briefs, including certiorari briefs to the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Kitts has also represented financial institutions facing broker/dealer litigation in South Carolina and the southeast, and has successfully obtained defense verdicts in arbitration. In addition, Ms. Kitts, along with other Nelson Mullins attorneys, serves as local counsel for a leading U.S. Corporation in its premises asbestos litigation.
A member of the South Carolina Bar, Ms. Kitts is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Ms. Kitts is a member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, and the Richland County Bar Association. In 2002, Ms. Kitts earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law where she was named to The Order of the Coif, and served as an Articles Editor of South Carolina Law Review. Ms. Kitts was also a member of the Order of Wig and Robe, the Order of Barristers, and the Moot Court Bar. In 1997, Ms. Kitts earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Politics with North American Studies, with honors, from the University of Leeds in England.
