William A. Prince focuses his practice on Medicaid rules and reimbursement, health regulations, government regulations, and strategic planning.
Mr. Prince has considerable experience in healthcare, having served as the director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from September 2000 until January 2003.
As HHS director, Mr. Prince reported directly to the governor of South Carolina and was responsible for funding services to seniors, purchasing and enhancing child-care services, and operating the Medicaid program. Medicaid contracts with 30,000 medical providers for $3 billion in health services to more than 700,000 people. He has extensive experience in long term care reimbursement and compliance issues. He has been active in the development of Medicaid policy initiatives relating to rural health care and rural hospitals.
Prior to leading HHS, Mr. Prince was special counsel at another large law firm, practicing primarily in healthcare law with concentration in Medicaid reimbursement, health regulations, and in government relations. Mr. Prince also served as vice president of Government Relations and General Counsel with the South Carolina Hospital Association. He also served as Special Assistant for Policy Development and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Richard Riley.
In 1978, Mr. Prince earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. In 1975, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary.
