Jane E. Remillard is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in its Boston office where she practices intellectual property law.

She has more than 17 years of experience in worldwide patent counseling and strategic planning, including patent prosecution, freedom to operate evaluations, opinion work, public offerings, agreements, licensing, due diligence analyses, interferences, and oppositions involving a variety of biomedical technologies.

Ms. Remillard represents a broad range of clients, from start-up biotechnology companies to established pharmaceutical corporations, in developing and implementing effective IP strategies, building strong patent portfolios that protect and facilitate commercialization of products and assessing freedom to operate. She is a leader in antibody patent prosecution and opinion work, representing some of the top companies in the field including:  Bristol-Myers Squibb/Medarex; Amgen Inc.; Novartis; Genmab A/S; MassBiologics; Inotek Pharmaceutical Corp; Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Avant Therapeutics.

She also works with companies and investors to conduct due diligence evaluations and opinions in connection with collaborations, acquisitions, licensing, and financing both in the U.S. and abroad.  Ms. Remillard has considerable experience with public offerings, including initial public offerings.

Her notable experience includes:

  • Representing clients in initial public offerings (IPOs) and multi-million dollar deals, including Genmab A/S; Accentia Biopharmaceuticals, Inc.; Hana Biosciences, Inc.; and Bristol-Myers Squibb/Medarex.
  • Advising investors, including venture capitalists and investment bankers, in assessing the strength of intellectual property assets held by prospective candidates for investment.
  • Prosecuting patent rights covering antibody products, including patents which have constituted the IP for multi-billion dollar deals.
  • Conducting the IP due diligence for Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in its exclusive multi-million dollar worldwide licensing agreement with Sanofi-Aventis for the development and co-commercialization of a first-in-class, fully human monoclonal antibody.
  • Working with investors in evaluating intellectual property assets in connection with collaborations, acquisitions, licensing, and financing.

A member of the Massachusetts Bar, Ms. Remillard is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  She is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Boston Patent Law Association, and the Women’s Bar Association. She is the 2009 Honoree of the Annual Boston University Law Women in Law Conference. Ms. Remillard is named on the Massachusetts Super Lawyers List (2009-2011) and Rising Stars List (2007).

In 1993, Ms. Remillard earned her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 1989.
