Jeffrey L. Mapen is a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who practices in Atlanta in the areas of business litigation, consumer financial services litigation and product liability litigation. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Mapen has extensive experience representing clients in a wide variety of complex business disputes from case inception through mediation, arbitration and trial, including disputes relating to contracts, franchises, real estate, unfair competition, trade secrets, debt consolidation services, truth in lending, trademarks and shareholders. Mr. Mapen’s practice includes the comprehensive defense of product liability and toxic tort clients in federal and state courts as well as MDLs.

Mr. Mapen’s business litigation experience includes the following:

  • Representation of various financial institutions in contract claims and prosecution of loan documents and guaranties.
  • Litigation and arbitration of contract dispute with franchisee on behalf of global franchisor.
  • Extensive litigation and negotiation of software licensing agreements.
  • Representation of international manufacturing company in local property, contract and employment issues.
  • Extensive litigation concerning asset purchase agreements on behalf of buyers and sellers.
  • Representation of Georgia HMO provider in trial court and Georgia Court of Appeals concerning interpretation of state legislation.
  • Extensive domestic and international arbitration experience on various claims, including complex breaches of contract.
  • Representation of landlords in complex and high value lease disputes, including complex property issues.
  • Litigation through jury trial verdict and appellate court on several real estate closing protection letter disputes.
  • Defense of debt consolidation service providers in state and federal courts and arbitrations.
  • Representation of corporations and shareholders in derivative shareholder disputes.
  • Representation of college and professor in defense of complaint asserting claims for computer fraud and abuse.
  • Defense of defamation claims on behalf of publisher in trial court and appellate court.

 In 2011, Mr. Mapen was recognized as a Georgia "Rising Star" in business litigation by Super Lawyers, honoring those deemed by the publication as the best lawyers under the age of 40. Reported decisions include the following:

 In 2003, Mr. Mapen earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Frederic G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida, where he served as Notes Editor of the Florida Journal of Law & Public Policy and received a book award in Estates & Trusts. During that time, Mr. Mapen served as a teaching assistant in multiple MBA and undergraduate business law courses. In 2000, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, cum laude, from the University of Florida. Mr. Mapen has since participated in various litigation clinics including those held by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.
