James C. Gray is administrative partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP and practices in Columbia in the areas of business litigation and insurance regulation. His insurance regulatory practice includes rate, rule and form issues, disciplinary proceedings, captive insurance and insurance company acquisition and merger.A member of the South Carolina Bar with extensive experience in the management of complex litigation cases, Mr. Gray is admitted to practice before the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. He has appeared pro hac vice before the courts of Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Mr. Gray consults privately with law firms on issues of capitalization, economic structure, and management. He speaks frequently on all aspects of law firm management, and has served on seminar faculties for professional legal associations throughout the United States.

Mr. Gray is co-author of "The Law of Indemnity in South Carolina," 41 S.C. L. REV. 603, 1990, and co-author of the third and fourth editions of "The Law of Automobile Insurance in South Carolina," a publication of the South Carolina Bar CLE Division. A member of the American Bar Association, Mr. Gray is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and often speaks for the Institute on economic issues. He has held seminar faculty positions in California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. Additionally, he is a member of the Richland County Bar Association and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association.

In 1979, Mr. Gray earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina where he was Comments Editor of the South Carolina Law Review, a member of the Order of Wig and Robe, and served as a legal writing instructor. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in 1970.
