John Hagerty has been engaged in the practice of general business law for more than thirty years, during which he has used his negotiating and organizational skills to manage various transactions. For example, currently he is working on one of the largest land developments in the State and perhaps the country involving negotiations with Counties and School Districts and the establishment of a Form Based Zoning Code. He has negotiated tax assessment districts; created numerous development  agreements; worked on joint ventures which have produced and successfully sold industrial and commercial properties in excess of 1,000,000 square feet ; and successfully represented a client's sale of timberland with unique tax advantages for more than half a billion dollars.

Mr. Hagerty has experience with private securities offerings, corporate restructurings and employee option plans as well as corporate representation of companies in the restaurant chain business , fire protection and industrial gas, various  roll-up businesses, as well as others.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hagerty was a principal litigator in the largest bankruptcy cased filed in the State and worked on other bankruptcy related cases both in the State and in Delaware.

Mr. Hagerty is a member of the Society of International Business Fellows, a group of business leaders throughout the Southeast and Southwest. He is on the board and serves as counsel for Spoleto Festival, USA and assists various other not-for-profit organizations.  Mr. Hagerty serves as chairman of the Patriots Point Development Authority, which oversees development and operation of a golf course, hotels, the US Medal of Honor Museum and the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Mr. Hagerty holds a Certified Commercial Investment Member Certificate ("CCIM"). He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for his corporate law practice.

In 1977, Mr. Hagerty earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1975, while working in the First Scholar Program at the First National Bank of Chicago. In 1973, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, from Harvard University where he played varsity football and lacrosse and was a recipient of the Burr Award as the outstanding student athlete of Harvard College.
