John D. Shire is a partner in the Corporate and Transactional Group of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Washington office.  Mr. Shire’s practice focuses on healthcare transactions and healthcare regulatory matters.

Mr. Shire provides transactional counseling to all forms of healthcare entities, and is frequently involved in entity structuring, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions.  His activities include entity formation, operational structure, due diligence, deal negotiation, documentation, and closing of transactions.  He also represents clients in healthcare financing and capital raising.

Mr. Shire provides regulatory advice to healthcare providers, including advice with respect to licensing, compliance, and enforcement.  Mr. Shire is a frequent author and lecturer on a variety of healthcare law topics, including practical business lectures for interns and hospital residents and for emerging growth companies in the Health IT venture capital space. 

He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Mr. Shire earned his Juris Doctor from Dickinson School of Law in 1998. While in law school, he was an associate editor of the Dickinson Law Review. He earned his Bachelors of Arts, cum laude, from Bucknell University in 1995.
