Mary S. Diemer is of counsel to Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Washington, D.C., where she practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation, employment litigation and telecommunications law. Ms. Diemer is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of Maryland, the District of Columbia and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits.

She is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Litigation) and Print Editor of Litigation News Magazine, published by the ABA Section of Litigation.

Before joining Nelson Mullins, Ms. Diemer worked for another law firm in the District of Columbia.

Ms. Diemer has successfully represented a major U.S. insurance company in coverage litigation involving asbestos and silica-related liabilities in the District of Columbia, New York, Connecticut, Maryland and other jurisdictions. Ms. Diemer has successfully represented a major insurance company in a large Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization involving $350 million in secured real estate debt. She has also represented a government employee group in a $4 million lawsuit against a major health care company for breach of contact. She also has represented and defended employers against claims of employment discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, national origin, disability and religion, including sexual harassment, Family and Medical Leave Act issues, breach of employment contracts, retaliation and other employment-related suits. She also counsels employers on compliance matters and has drafted employer policies and handbooks.

Ms. Diemer has published numerous articles including: Unpublished Federal Opinions May Become Uniformly Citable, ABA Litigation News, January 2006, Harmless Pleading Mistakes Excused, ABA Litigation News, September 2005 and E-Discovery Sanctions Precede $1.45 Billion Verdict, ABA Litigation News, September 2005.

Ms. Diemer earned a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law, cum laude, in 1988. In 1985, Ms. Diemer earned a Bachelor of Art’s degree, cum laude, from George Washington University, Elliot School of Public and International Affairs.
