Merritt G. Abney is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who practices in Charleston in the area of complex commercial litigation with a focus on disputes involving financial institutions, real property, and real estate development.  He has experience with litigation involving debtor and creditors' rights, commercial foreclosure and receivership, land sales, planned and mixed-use communities, condominiums, resorts, hotels, and homeowners' association covenants and bylaws. 

A member of the South Carolina Bar, Mr. Abney is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association.

In 2003, Mr. Abney earned a Juris Doctor from the Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was named to the Order of the Coif.  In 1999, Mr. Abney earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, with high honors, from Davidson College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
