Summer Programs - Atlanta

Atlanta is a regional, national and international business, and government and transportation center with a dynamic population and a thriving economy. Most Fortune 500 companies have offices in Atlanta, and several are headquartered here. Prestigious educational institutions such as Emory, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State, The Atlanta University Center and Morehouse College are also located here. Service, manufacturing, financial, and other industries have found Atlanta to be an ideal location from which to pursue business within the United States and abroad.

Businesses and individuals are attracted to Atlanta's pleasant climate, world-class shopping and dining, and numerous recreations and cultural opportunities. Atlanta has professional sports teams in all of the major sports such as Braves baseball, Falcons football, Hawks basketball, and Thrashers hockey. The city's warm climate allows people to play year-round on more than 100 public and private golf courses and participate in Atlanta's more than 200 tennis clubs. Nearby, lakes offer wonderful boating, skiing, and fishing opportunities, and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in north Georgia are ideal for hiking, camping, biking and rafting. Weekend getaways on the Atlantic or gulf coasts are within a few hours drive of Atlanta. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the High Museum of Art along with numerous other theatres, museums, and concert pavilions provide the city with an abundance of cultural opportunities.

Nelson Mullins' Summer Associate Program is a vital part of our recruiting process and is one of our primary sources for hiring entry-level associates. Summer associates are quickly integrated into the firm and involved immediately in current client matters. Nelson Mullins is dedicated to providing summer associates with an opportunity to achieve a realistic view of our firm's practice and it's open and dynamic culture.

In its summer program, the Atlanta office of Nelson Mullins offers summer associates the same training associates receive to succeed at the firm. Summer associates experience the day-to-day practice of law through opportunities to attend depositions, negotiation and drafting sessions, client conferences, closings, administrative hearings, and trials. Depending on the practice area and the current client needs, assignments will involve a variety of legal issues, and may include drafting briefs and pleadings; working on financial and corporate transactions; and participating in the preparation of securities offerings. While each summer associate is at times presented with demanding tasks, the assignments are structured to give the summer associate realistic exposure to the practice of law at Nelson Mullins. Our program is designed to offer memorable and exciting work assignments, and to provide distinctive opportunities for summer associates to interact with all attorneys at the firm.

A summer associate's first day is spent learning more about our history, our culture, our operations, and our people. Throughout the summer, we offer educational lunches to assist summer associates with their professional development and to inform them about the different practice areas of the firm. We demonstrate our policy of openness by providing "question and answer" sessions, at which the firm's attorneys are available to answer numerous questions, submitted by the summer associates on an anonymous basis, about the operations, culture, and opportunities at the firm and the practice of law in general.
