President Obama Unveils His Own
$950 Billion Health Reform Proposal
Ahead of the bi-partisan healthcare summit to take place at the White House later this week, this morning, President Obama unveiled his own roughly $950 billion health reform proposal. The White House Press Release annonuced specifically that "Over the past year the House and the Senate have been working on an effort to provide health insurance reform that lowers costs, guarantees choices, and enhances quality healthcare for all Americans. Building on that year-long effort, the President has now put forth a proposal that incorporates the work the House and the Senate have done and adds additional ideas from Republican members of Congress."
Although the White House refers to both the Senate and House version of healthcare reform as being the basis for their proposal, the proposal tracks largely the Senate passed bill. The proposal does not contain a government-backed insurance option. Further, the proposal would require greater accountability for health insurance companies, includes a big expansion of Medicaid (to be funded largely by the Federal government as opposed to the states), and increases coverage subsidies.
The entire proposal along with the summaries of each section is and will be posted on the Nelson Mullins Healthcare Reform Library www.nelsonmullins.com/pages.cfm/Healthcare_Library.
