Helen Sloat is a Legislative Consultant and Georgia Registered Lobbyist with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Atlanta where she is an advocate for various clients including healthcare providers and insurers. Ms. Sloat has tracked federal and state legislation, drafted bills and amendments, and has lobbied for their introduction and passage.

Ms. Sloat also monitors public policy in health and insurance issues by attending meetings and forums held by various state government departments and agencies, such as the Department of Community Health and the Department of Human Resources.

Ms. Sloat also serves as a senior paralegal in the healthcare group, assisting the group's practice on certificates of need, regulatory work and other general corporate work relating to healthcare clients. She has experience in drafting pleadings, including answers, removal papers, discovery requests and responses, and pretrial orders; coordinating document productions and depositions; and in preparing complex litigation matters for hearings and trials. She is also proficient in conducting legal research.


Ms. Sloat is a member of the Georgia Association of Paralegals; the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, where she serves on the Governmental Affairs Council and its Healthcare and Judiciary Committees; and Women Healthcare Executives. She has also been a member of W.A.T.C.H., Women Actively Taking Control of Healthcare, a public policy group focusing on education as it relates to healthcare issues and managed care, where she has served as a member of the board of directors and the Policy Committee; and the Georgia Safety NETwork Group, a coalition of nonprofit organizations and individuals following the development and implementation of welfare reform.

In 2008, Ms. Sloat was selected to Leadership Atlanta, Class of 2009. Ms. Sloat is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Atlanta and member of the board of directors of the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault, Camp Horizon, and Georgia Center for Child Advocacy. Ms. Sloat is a member of the Randolph Estates Garden Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta where she has been active on several committees. She has also been a member of the board of directors of the Partnership Against Domestic Violence, and she is a former president of its Board. She has also served on the Advisory Board of Georgia State University's Continuing Legal Education Program for Paralegals and is a former Assistant State Director for the American Institute for Paralegal Studies. 

Ms. Sloat earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Tennessee, and a Paralegal Certificate from The National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta. She has also done postgraduate work at Georgia State University.
