Nelson Mullins Enjoys Record Year in Boston Office
Key Practice Areas See Double Digit Growth
BOSTON (Jan. 5, 2010) – The Boston law office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP saw its best year in terms of revenue growth and new clients for 2009.
Overall, revenues increased by more than 108 percent, primarily through the acquisition of clients that came with 15 new attorneys and professionals from other Boston area law practices. The Firm also created Nelson Mullins Public Strategies, a government relations and lobbying firm. With the combined forces of the entire team, the office added 13 new clients from June through December 2009.
"Nelson Mullins is well positioned for 2010 with our intellectual property, litigation and bankruptcy practice areas leading the way," said Bill Hogan, co-managing partner of the Boston office. "We have grown during this economic downturn by providing our clients with seasoned legal experience to solve complex situations. Our deep knowledge of key sectors in Massachusetts – financial services, life sciences, information technology and higher education – gives us the ability to think strategically about the best ways to help clients succeed in 2010."
The office's financial services practice and online brand equity group, within the Firm's intellectual property practice, each saw revenue growth of more than 18 percent. The financial services group's work included consumer and commercial lending initiatives with major banks. The brand equity group helped major corporations develop anti-counterfeiting strategies to counter the online sale of counterfeit goods.
The Firm's government relations practice, headquartered in Washington D.C., also realized record revenues with 42 percent growth in 2009. Led by Bob Crowe, co-managing partner of the Boston office, the lobbying practice also added former Canadian Ambassador David Wilkins and former Congressman Ron Klink of Pennsylvania.
"Our nation's capital is more important than ever for industries such as financial services, health care and energy," said Mr. Crowe, former Democratic National Committee finance co-chair. "Our seasoned team of government relations professionals is helping companies, educational institutions and organizations across industries navigate numerous political challenges and create innovative business opportunities. More than ever, these groups need to be well positioned at the federal level to benefit from a rebounding economy."
