Six Nelson Mullins Attorneys Named to N.C. 'Legal Elite'
Business North Carolina magazine has named six Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP attorneys to its "2012 Legal Elite," a roster of North Carolina attorneys selected by their peers as the most effective in their practice areas. In addition, Raleigh partner William H. Gammon was the top vote-getter among the 17 attorneys selected in the construction law field and as such will enter the Legal Elite Hall of Fame. Raleigh partner Terri Gardner currently is a member of the Legal Elite Hall of Fame, having been selected by her peers as the top vote-getter in bankruptcy law in 2007.
The six attorneys selected and their practice areas are:
- William H. Gammon (Raleigh), construction;
- Lance A. Lawson (Charlotte), intellectual property;
- R. Brian Drozd (Charlotte), intellectual property;
- David Harlow (Raleigh), intellectual property;
- Franklin Scott Templeton (Winston-Salem), business; and
- Leslie Lane Mize (Raleigh), best under 40.
Lawyers across the state select Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite, published in the magazine’s January edition. Statewide, 650 lawyers — about 3 percent of the total — were picked by their peers in 14 mostly business-related categories. Notices were sent to more than 20,000 active members of the North Carolina State Bar living in the state, directing them to the ballot on the magazine’s Web site, www.BusinessNC.com. Voters could not pick themselves, and they could select partners and associates only if they also select lawyers outside the firm in the same categories, with more weight given to outside votes.
Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 430 attorneys and government relations professionals practicing from 12 office locations in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
