Only 5 percent of North Carolina attorneys are chosen each year. The selections are made by Law & Politics, a division of Key Professional Media, Inc., of Minnesota. The organization asks attorneys who have been in practice for at least five years to nominate the best attorneys they've personally observed in action. Lawyers may nominate attorneys in their own firm if they also nominate attorneys from other firms. Lawyers cannot nominate themselves. The final selection is made after research on the attorneys by the organization.
